This puzzle toy was a gift I designed and built for my father one father's day. The base is a birch hardwood coated in a linseed oil. I manually cut a rectangular shape out of the wood with a small jig saw, then laser-etched the image onto the surface of the wood. I waterjet-cut the frame from an aluminum sheet, and drilled and counter-sinked the screw holes. After screwing on the frame, I used it as a guide to sand the corners to a round finish. The pieces were laser cut from quarter-inch thick clear acrylic, then sand-blasted for that cool, frosted look.
